Don’t forget the new reverb
This is cool! Does that mean you can resample just one track (or a selection of tracks) internally? (I haven’t owned a Deluge in a few years, thanks for your patience)
Currently you can route just one track to an audio clip. In the future I think you’ll be able to route multiple tracks to one audio clip.
But yea this offers a way to bounce the audio of an instrument to an audio clip live without needing to use the resampling method.
Really hope for improvement to sampling and sample trimming/saving at some point, I think this is the only area where Deluge is quite behind other samplers, to the point where I could get rid of a few other samplers if only the Deluge had these fundamentals (threshold sampling, destructive trim and save, quicker kit sampling, more straightforward audio recording)
In terms of performance and sequencing it is quite far in front of other gear though, so it has a important role in my setup regardless of if it gets these.
Can you elaborate on each of the improvements you’re looking for?
What does faster kit sampling entail? Audition pad + record is super fast.
Also what improvements to audio recording are you looking for? We have improvements in 1.2 and more improvements in the 1.3 nightly
Surething
For kits:
Select new kit, press pad to record to, press record, it waits for input then starts recording, press record again to stop, audition the pad to make sure it recorded correctly, if ok move to next pad hit record, repeat, if the recording was not ok redo it and it saves over the incorrect file. Not sure if you are familiar with Novation Circuit Rhythm, but it is so quick to sample compared to Deluge it becomes a enjoyable process rather than a bit of a chore. On Deluge I don’t like the fact that you can’t batch sample a bunch of drum sounds without tons of button presses, and deleting a sound is not at all intuitive - I always hold pad and press shift+delete but that tries to save, then have to look in manual to re-discover it is hold shift+save then press kit, then dialog asks which file to delete, select, then press ok - a bit long winded. Also I think it would be useful to have the waveform edit be destructive, so when trimming the unwanted portion is not taking up space.
Audio recording:
I always find it a bit counter intuitive to both set a track to audio, select the input, then actually record - I know this has been somewhat improved since I used it last, especially in the grid view. But it would be great if you could just hold a grid pad in any mode, and press record, you have option to start by threshold, or after a set number of steps, or when press main encoder for instant. Then you can go into waveform mode and edit if required, then it saves the edit getting rid of the unwanted audio outside the start and end points - just like how most other samplers work.
I guess that a lot of users don’t find these things important and I’m ok with that, but these functions would improve the usability for me incredibly. As it is I mostly load audio from card that I have created on other samplers, already trimmed. It isn’t that much hassle to work this way as I do a lot of sampling and have a lot of samplers, I think the reason I prefer to use them for sampling is because they are much quicker to use than the Deluge.
When I think about other aspects of the Deluge such as the arranger, the simplicity of copying tracks, the innovations like cross screen, and using the pads for waveform view, the sequence editing, navigation and zooming, and all the other countless things that are so intuitive it just seems the sampling and audio side are so cumbersome by comparison.
No allot of users do think about these things, for some reason these things are not generally being encouraged to be brought up unlike other instrumentation , thankfully Sean is on the case, and also thankfully you can articulate these needs in a way that cannot be improved upon, thank you for doing so!
Hi Guys
I have just bought a S/H Deluge and was wondering if i can define the age of it by the serial number?
Thanks
Honestly Reza who responded to you is one of the most knowledgeable persons in the Deluge community, trust what they said lol
Hi
It wasnt my post on there i was just asking here for confirmation
Thanks
If you are interested in the community firmware, first check that your bootloader is updated!
Hmm, why does this one remind me of @schoolbabyboy amazing work with the EP-133 K.O. II
ayy this is groovy! thanks for the shout out, love seeing other tunes from people who dig the cute vibes and vocal samples
Hey! That is awesome
Detroit Modular is now stocking the Deluge. I think they might be the first Synthstrom retailer in the US. (or world-wide?)
Nice that folks in the US can now get it w/out worrying about the import tax.
For Europeans, they can order here; (from Belgium)
Share with your local synth dealer to get the Deluge in more stores!
