Anyone with spare parts?’

Dear fellows
The slot that accommodates the main left output on the MD got snapped out / the plastic tip broke out. Thankfully it works, but it’s hard to see it that way…
I was wondering if anyone could point me to somebody who has machinedrum parts that could be salvaged from a non working unit… would very much appreciate your recommendations…
Cheers

Spare parts from a unit which is that old (ie machinedrum age) will have the same issues in the long term (or maybe the short term, who knows) as what you’re dealing with now.

I can’t imagine that the output jack part is very rare. I’d consider uninstalling it and get a good look at the foot arrangement (measure the distance apart etc) then order a few replacements from mouser or digikey and see if you can find one that fits the footprint.

I understand your desire to use the elektron part, but if they won’t sell it to you (because they don’t have it) and won’t give you the part number (because?? can’t figure this one out myself either…) then your options are quite limited.

Yeah, I would just see what Digikey or Mouser has for this part. Elektron may be able to provide the original part info and make it easier to source your replacement.

Elektron still has spare parts for Machinedrum, correct?

I read here on elektronauts somewhere that they only have some small amount for service on mkII, no more service for mkI. You’d have to ask them about their actual stock.

It won’t be a part bespoke to the machinedrum - if you ask Elektron they might be able to give you a part number or description you can work with to track it down from an electronics supplier :ok_hand: Assuming they don’t have any lying around. But it’ll probably be cheaper and quicker to buy one for 20(small denomination currency) from a local supplier to you than have one shipped from Sweden.

I am still waiting for their reply, don’t know why it is taking so long…

I kind of assumed that this part might have only been designed for the machinedrum…

I got in touch with them about it, they replied the next day to ask me to send pictures. But since then… I am still waiting for the second reply…
I even mentioned to them that I would rather send them the machine to do the part replacement, evenn though i could easily do it myself…

I’d say that’s exceedingly unlikely. Other than the casing I wouldn’t expect any of the machine to be bespoke.

This looks like a similar(ish) kind of part: ABS Banded Socket | Plastic Fittings | Flocon

That golden Color inside the Jack slot I assumed might have been part of the design

Yea if I had to guess the whole socket is a ‘part’ - the socket, the nut and the collar probably come as a whole.

Totally something else
The one on the machinedrum extends from the inside out…

I’m not suggesting that this is a suitable replacement (it’s also not 1/4"), just that similar parts will be available.

However I suspect it might not be a part that’s purchased on its own, but instead comes as part of a 1/4" socket.

They normally come with all parts needed to mount to a surface, i.e:

Trawling 1/4" sockets might be a slog though, I’m sure that Elektron will be happy to help if they can.

It is only a mountable plastic socket that gets soldered on board and then supported by a nut from the outside. Will share a picture

The jacks are Jalco style stereo ones with a gold ring insert. They are very common in audio gear. Where to find the exact same part is another question.

Elektron just got back to me today … haha… they probably have read this thread. Gladly they are willing to help replace the broken part…
