TX-6 vs.....?

Im seriously considering purchasing the TX-6 to go with my pulsar and eurorrack system. Those who have it how do you like it?

I like it a lot and use it as mini mixer for my dawless setup and recording straight to the phone. Tx 6 got a lot of other tricks up its sleeve but I haven’t explored all of them yet or used it as a sound card.

It’s small, maybe too small and op thinks it’s too expensive. They might be right but I’m pretty happy with it.

It’s a major investment so I think it’s good to get opinions before you jump into something that requires such small hands to operate.

Just for reference there’s a rather thick thread with some info that might be useful:

as it is i think its a great mixer in that it multitracks directly to my phone, is small and has PRE Fader recording (unlike the tascam and Zoom multitrack mixers) i have quiet large hands (not sausage fingers though) and find the knobs and faders to be OK to deal with, but its not like i spend a lot of time tweaking this mixer, at best i tweak the level faders.

I would say the down side is that it is very sensitive to incoming audio levels and peaks very easily (and not in that nice analog saturated peak way)

So if its direct Eurorack signals that you are thinking of sending to your mixer, then i would say that you should reconsider purchasing it.

the build quality it self is great, very little wobble on the knobs and faders.

Take a look at 1010music Bluebox (eurorack or desktop) – it has 3 aux sends and 2 sends to internal effects; can also work as a recorder. It is not very convenient due to touch screen and limited amount of physical knobs, but it is very easy to map any parameter to external midi controller. It costs 1/2 of TX-6. It costs almost 2 times less than the TX-6, and with the money saved you can buy Strymon Cloudburst and Brig.

MAT 16x8 looks like a great option if you are fine using it as an interface for something like AUM on a phone/tablet.

People here with beta devices have said that it has a lot more headroom than TX-6.
The downside is that it doesn’t exist as a product you can buy yet.

If the 1010 Bluebox could do multichannel over USB, I’d find it a lot more appealing.

I love my TX-6. I’ve been gigging with it for two years now. I mostly use it as a submixer for my keyboards and samplers. The battery life is excellent and the size is perfect for me. It replaced my Radial Key-Largo when it died. It also makes a great audio interface for my Mac and iOS devices when I’m outside the studio. I can’t recommend it enough.

I’m going to keep trying to speak this into existence…

I wish Roland would realize the potential of like a 6-channel stereo mixer/audio interface in their Aira Compact format…

I needed a new mixer not long after the TX-6 was released as my current one at the time just stopped working. Getting the TX-6 has been such a great addition to my setup. It’s small, compact, battery powered, lots of inputs and outputs, works as an interface, has great additional effects. It just has so much going for it in such a small package. I love this thing.

i have extremely small workspace/studio at home and can’t have a big mixer. as it is now if i want to jam with my synths i need to set up ableton and fx on each track etc, i feel that tx-6 would be a cool thing to have just press on and start to jam, mix a little bit and record in this small space. has this also replaced the audio interface you have? in that case i’m thinking to sell my audio interface and just have the tx-6

I’ve enjoyed mine and have had it for 1.5 years. My only complaints are that midi BLE just stopped working and I’ve given up after troubleshooting various times. Also, the colored paint finish on the effects buttons has worn off, which bums me out.

But, my mixes sound great so I’m very happy to own the TX-6.

This device would be a game changer for me, I deeply hope he moves ahead with releasing it as a commercial product. It is all I’ve dreamed of in an interface.

I love mine. I dont really need it at all times at home anymore so mainly jams and travel.

I did think about selling it but then realised:

A) it would be handy on my overseas trip so I have it with me which is just as well as I have a few Moogs and a P6 in trades etc to tinker with!

B) Resale value not so good.

If you have a iPad / iPhone is also a handy tool!!! I kind of lumped it in the same box as my Octatrack. Something I wont always use but will certainly need at some point for a job!

I do love the design - its ridiculously small which of course is good and not so great (knobs) but a marvel to look at

I love my TX-6 and use it a lot since it is certified to use with Apple iOS without adapters it’s very handy to record jams.

Be warned that the Pulsar separate outs are to hot (at least the bass) for the TX-6 and needs something between. I used a Bastl dude mixer for this.

But still love it.

hmmm thats a drawback thats clipping on the pulsar, then i bet it will clip from my modular system as well…

This was the response from Pulsar when i asked them about it.

“ BD and BASS have 5V bias voltage on their OUT pins. This was done to avoid cutting low frequencies on those channels and let user decide on using High-Pass Filter of his own choosing.

Your audio interface probably doesn’t filter bias voltage on its own, it basically wants signals with bias voltage around 0V. However it’s getting constant 5 volts + BD/BASS signal, which causes pre-amp oversaturation and results in signal glitching

The easiest way to get proper signal is to send BD/BASS signal through 10uF capacitor and then connect it to interface’s input. You can also send it through external High-Pass filter.”

But other than that TX-6 is amazing when space is an issue or to travel with to get a portable mixer/usb audio device :relaxed:
