AH FX compressor

Hi all, contemplating an AH and not sure if I should go with the MKII or the FX.

Question, I don’t believe the MKII has compression? Is compression worth it on the FX? Also, does the MKII suffer from the low output issue as well?

Finally, I don’t really care about the reverb and other effects, but the compression might be useful.

Thanks

I’d say get a different compressor and then get the MK2. If you already have a digitakt it’s the same compressor.

That said, the other benefits of the AH FX is that there’s a noise gate built in and more modulation sources.

If you’re more wanting compression with distortion look at the Oto Boum. The compressor has less controls but it really does a lot as an end of chain device.

Also the MK2 can be used as a compressor. It has an envelope follower and you can use that to lower the gain and then turn the volume back up. It’s literally compression just without the ratio controls and other things like that.

But yeah, I didn’t care for the AHFXs effects all too much. The compressor isn’t bad but it’s just a digital compressor and I’ve got better compressors with more controls and character models in my DAW. The Oto Boum does a lot more in that regard to really color and give your signal some thump.

Looking at the AH FX signal flow everything seems to be converted to digital before the FX and comp etc, so cannot have a fully analog signal path. I actually really liked the comps in the OT and DT when I had them…but something considering if that’s important to you.

You can turn the digital side off to get a fully analog signal path

So is the comp fully digital Or is it similar to Fmr Rnc for example, digital control of an amplifier with fully analog signal path?

Fully digital.

hi all

Analog Rytm user here. The compressor on the Heat doesn’t list milliseconds like on the Rytm , but values of 1-127. Kinda makes it hard to follow guides on how to do mastering that speak to milliseconds. I ended up being OK with my efforts just by ear. But anyone here can offer any insight into how to attribute 1-127 to corresponding milliseconds? thanks

I think you just have to go by your compression sound / your ears rather than any values. There are many things about the way the AH+FX is setup that could have been visually better. Overbridge has quite a few meters / dials without any values at all.
